Help us to protect WA from pests, weeds and diseases which could arrive on items you are carrying from interstate.
Western Australia's agricultural economy is one of our financial mainstays and can be severely affected through the introduction of noxious plants or insect species. Being free from many of the insect and animal pests, plant and animal diseases and weeds, which are present elsewhere in Australia, WA's geographic remoteness has provided the State with a natural barrier against many pests and diseases, and our quarantine officers actively protect this. Therefore, there are strict quarantine laws on what can be bought into WA.
The Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia's Quarantine WA service, operates border checkpoints as a first line of defense against incursions of unwanted pests, weeds and diseases, which could arrive on freight, cargo and other items brought in from interstate.
There is a Road Border checkpoint entering Western Australia from the Northern Territory Boarder that operates 24 hours a day throughout the year.
Many items are restricted from entering Western Australia. RISK ITEMS will be asked to be placed into a quarantine bin or handed to a Quarantine Inspector. Be warned, heavy penalties apply to those people not declaring items identified as a risk.
There is NO BORDER CHECKPOINT when leaving Western Australia to enter the Northern Territory.
