Ivanhoe Crossing
Overview
This iconic long, curved, concrete causeway over the Ord River was constructed to raise and improve an existing causeway built around 1930, and was opened in 1954.
Since the start of the Ord irrigation project in the 1960's, the river now flows all year round, making the crossing impassable during the "Wet Season" when the river level is too high.
Due to varying water levels the crossing may/may not be open to drive across but is still well worth a visit for great photo opportunities.
When open, this is an alternative route to Middle Springs, Black Rock Falls, and Wyndham.
4WD required for the crossing.
Saltwater crocodiles inhabit the Lower Ord River so strictly no swimming.
10km to the north of Kununurra along Ivanhoe Road.
